GoHighLevel Drip Content: How It Actually Works
GoHighLevel drip content schedules when a lesson, module or category becomes visible to a member, instead of unlocking an entire course the moment someone pays. You set it at the category or lesson level.
HighLevel's support documentation on course drip settings describes it plainly: it lets you schedule when lessons or course content become available to members over time.
A course like this lives inside the same product that powers a full GoHighLevel membership site, so the drip setting sits on the same lesson editor you already use to upload video or attach a worksheet.
How GoHighLevel Drip Content Actually Unlocks Lessons
Open a lesson or a subcategory and the drip setting is right there, rather than a single toggle for the whole product. That's deliberate: a category groups lessons, and each one can carry its own release rule.
A cohort program might leave module one open from day one and hold module four until everyone is four weeks in. An evergreen program needs the delay to count from each student's own start date instead, since people join on any day of the month.
| Drip option | Best for |
|---|---|
| Days from enrollment | Evergreen programs people can join anytime |
| Fixed calendar date | Cohort launches where everyone moves together |
The fixed-date option wasn't always there. A request on the ideas portal asked to select a specific date to release content to all members, since dripping purely by days-after-purchase left cohort programs with students unlocking the same lesson on different days.
That request has since shipped as a completed feature.
What Changed in HighLevel's May 2026 Drip Update
On May 9, 2026, an update to course preview and drip scheduling went out. It closed a gap where an invalid drip value, like entering 0, could still be saved. That risked a lesson unlocking immediately, or never unlocking at all.
Now the system blocks anything that isn't a valid delay greater than zero before it saves.
The same release added an admin-only preview toggle, called "View Content (Unlocked)," for courses built on the Neo Classic theme. It switches between the locked view a new student sees and the unlocked view.
That way you can confirm a drip schedule behaves as promised without waiting out the delay on a dummy account.
That toggle doesn't work on every course theme yet. Worth checking before you promise a client you'll preview their exact build during setup.
Where Drip Content Still Falls Short
Not every gap has closed. A request filed on the ideas portal in September 2023 asked for a way to unlock dripped content for one contact or a specific group without cloning the whole course. As of this writing, it's still open.
The workaround is the cloning process the request itself complains about. Duplicate the product, turn off its drip settings, and enroll the exception separately. That's fine for a handful of VIP students.
It gets tedious once the source course updates often. You're left syncing two copies of the same material by hand.
Drip content earns more of its value once something fires the moment a lesson unlocks. A workflow built around that trigger can text the student instead of counting on them to check an inbox.
That's the same logic behind the automation built for membership programs that need people to actually show up, like the retention work behind a fitness studio's win-back campaign. Set the schedule once, and the reminder sends itself.
