GoHighLevel LC Phone: How It Works and What It Costs
LC Phone is the calling and texting layer built into GoHighLevel, and HighLevel's own support documentation spells out exactly how much control a sub-account gets over it.
Routing reaches up to six destinations at once, verified caller IDs cap at ten per sub-account, and inbound rate limits can shut off incoming calls entirely once tripped.
Setting up a GoHighLevel LC phone number takes minutes. Staying inside the limits that keep it working takes reading the fine print first.
Buying and Registering a GoHighLevel LC Phone Number
Buying a number happens inside a sub-account's Settings, under Phone System. The Add Number button opens a filter for country, area code, digits, and voice, SMS, or MMS capability.
Once selected, HighLevel shows the number's capabilities and recurring monthly rental before you confirm. Pricing varies by country and number type, and it can change over time.
Two extra steps catch people off guard. US, Canadian, and Puerto Rican numbers, plus Israeli +972 numbers, need Persona identity verification first. Some countries also require an address or regulatory bundle before provisioning.
Messaging runs on its own registration track. A number can place calls the moment it's purchased, but sending business SMS or MMS needs A2P 10DLC registration first.
Twilio's compliance documentation describes what happens without it: a number not added to a Messaging Service tied to a verified campaign simply sits in "Unregistered" status. Under a Sole Proprietor campaign, only one 10DLC number can ever hold that status.
Routing, Recording, and the Verified Caller ID Cap
A purchased number can ring an external number, a team member's business phone, a Voice AI agent, or up to six users at once.
Call Connect adds a safeguard on top. It requires whoever picks up to press a key before the call counts as answered, so a forward that lands on voicemail doesn't log as a successful connection.
Whisper messages, the audio cue before a call connects, only play on forwards to an external number, not inside the app. Leave the timeout blank and it defaults to 60 seconds.
Billing for the extras:
- Call recording: $0.0025 per minute to capture
- Recording storage: $0.0005 per minute per month
- Text-to-speech prompts: $0.00084 per 100 characters
The mobile app has its own limit. Verified caller ID lets someone place outbound calls from the HighLevel or LeadConnector app while showing a personal or business number they already own.
Confirming it means answering a verification call and entering a code. Sub-accounts get ten of these by default, and support can raise the cap on request. The feature needs app version 4.25.0 or later on either app.
The Inbound Call Rate Limits That Can Block You
HighLevel's inbound call rate limits watch every number for call volume, and the threshold depends on what it's connected to.
| Number type | Threshold | What trips it |
|---|---|---|
| Regular number | More than 10 calls/minute from one number, or 15/minute to one number | Logs a violation, blocks the triggering call |
| Voice AI-connected number | More than 200 calls/minute | Logs a violation, blocks the triggering call |
| IVR-connected number | No published threshold | Built to handle high volume without this check |
One violation just blocks the call that triggered it. Five violations inside a single hour is the real danger: cross that and HighLevel blocks all inbound calls to the account, Voice AI and regular numbers alike, until support steps in to lift it.
Rate limits and concurrency differ: one counts calls over time, the other counts how many are live at once.
HighLevel hasn't published a concurrency ceiling for phone-based Voice AI, only a 20-concurrent-call cap on the browser-based chat widget. That gap matters for a business running high call volume through Voice AI dispatch.
Getting the configuration right before a campaign sends unexpected volume through it beats waiting on a support ticket to lift a block. Setting up a sub-account's phone system correctly from the start avoids most of it.
