How the GoHighLevel Stripe Integration Actually Works
Every payment GoHighLevel processes for a sub-account runs through a connected processor, and for most agencies that processor is Stripe.
The GoHighLevel Stripe integration sits behind order forms, invoices, payment links, memberships and the workflow engine. Set it up once per sub-account, and all of those surfaces can take money.
Before any of that works, Stripe needs an already active account on the other side. GoHighLevel doesn't create one for you.
If you're setting this up on behalf of a client, use their Stripe account, not yours. That's whose bank account the money actually lands in.
Connecting Stripe to Your Sub-Account
There's more than one door into this setup. From Launchpad, pick Ecommerce and select "Start Collecting Payments with Stripe".
Or go to Settings, then Integrations, and hit Continue on the Stripe card. A third route opens Payments, clicks the Integrations tab, and connects from there.
Agencies handling this as part of broader GHL setup and configuration work usually just pick whichever path the client's account already has open.
Whichever route you take, the next step hands off to Stripe itself. You follow Stripe's own authorization instructions, then come back into GoHighLevel and confirm the integration shows as enabled.
What the GoHighLevel Stripe Integration Covers, and What It Doesn't
Once it's connected, Stripe cards work almost everywhere. GoHighLevel tracks 15 separate product areas, from order forms and invoices to courses, communities and point-of-sale.
Stripe cards are supported across all of them. Nothing else gets that same reach.
| Payment method | Product areas covered | What it buys you |
|---|---|---|
| Stripe cards | All 15 areas | Works everywhere, including subscriptions |
| Apple Pay / Google Pay | 14 areas | Only renders on compatible devices |
| SEPA / iDEAL | 10+ areas | Recurring support varies by method |
| Affirm / Klarna | 8 areas | One-time payments only |
| PayPal | 9 areas | No SaaS mode, surveys or calendar bookings |
Card readers are the one exception worth flagging on their own. They're restricted to point-of-sale, so a reader that takes a card in person won't do anything inside an order form, invoice or payment link online.
Which methods a customer actually sees on a given page is a separate setting from whether GoHighLevel supports them at all.
That list lives under Settings, then Connect, then Payment methods, under Your account. It's split into four configurations: Invoice, InvoiceWithAutopayment, Store and Default, each switching on a different default set of methods.
Subscriptions add one more requirement. A method has to be turned on in both GoHighLevel and in Stripe's own Billing Payment Methods settings, or it won't appear at checkout.
Automating Charges With the Stripe One-Time Charge Action
The integration stops being just a payment page once a workflow can trigger it directly.
The Stripe One-Time Charge action fires a charge when something specific happens: a form gets submitted, an appointment gets booked through a post-appointment workflow, or any other trigger already built into a workflow automation.
Setting it up means entering the Stripe Customer ID for whoever's being charged, a short description for tracking, the amount, and the currency.
That amount can be a fixed number or a dynamic value pulled through the Custom Variable Picker. It's built for charging sub-account administrators, not contacts directly, which matters if you're picturing it as a general checkout rather than an agency billing tool.
After publishing, the Enrollment History tab shows whether the workflow actually ran. The Stripe dashboard is still where you confirm the charge landed.
If what you actually need is to rebill clients for GoHighLevel access itself, that's SaaS mode territory rather than this workflow action. The mechanics differ enough to be worth reading separately in our breakdown of GoHighLevel's SaaS plans and rebilling rules.
For everything short of that, the pattern stays the same: connect Stripe once, decide which methods customers actually see, and let a workflow handle the charge instead of a person.
