Should I Hire a GoHighLevel Team or Learn GHL Myself?

Hire a GoHighLevel team: business owner reviewing a CRM dashboard on a laptop

A GoHighLevel account starts at $97 a month, yet the subscription is the smallest part of the decision. The real choice is whether you hire a GoHighLevel team to build and run the account, or spend your own weeks learning it and fixing it when texting gets blocked.

Both routes work. Whether to hire a GoHighLevel team or go it alone depends on what your time is worth, how many accounts you'll run, and how much of the technical side you actually want to own.

What does GoHighLevel cost before you hire anyone?

Whichever route you take, the software has its own bill. As of October 2026, HighLevel's pricing page lists three public plans plus a contact-sales Enterprise tier, and every plan comes with a 14-day trial.

Plan prices and the 14-day trial

Billing starts automatically when the trial ends unless you cancel, so put the date in your calendar on day one.

PlanMonthlyYearlyWhat it buys
Starter$97$9703 sub-accounts
Unlimited$297$2,970Unlimited sub-accounts, basic API access, phone and email rebilling at no markup
Agency Pro$497$4,970Unlimited sub-accounts, SaaS Mode, advanced API access, rebilling with markup

Agency owners who resell the platform will outgrow Starter quickly. A business owner running one company can usually stay on the cheapest plan.

Usage fees that sit on top of the plan

The monthly price doesn't cover everything. Conversation AI, Voice AI, Reviews AI, email and SMS marketing, and inbound and outbound calling are all charged by usage, and telecom or third-party fees can apply even during the trial.

A white-label mobile app is a separate add-on at $497 a month. Budget for these before you compare the cost of doing it yourself with the cost of paying someone.

How long does it take to learn GoHighLevel yourself?

If you learn GoHighLevel through the official programme, HighLevel says the course is "designed to be completed in just 7-10 days at a steady pace." That gets you certified. It doesn't get you a finished, tested system for your own business.

The official Certified Admin route

You enrol, work through hands-on tasks in a private community, then pass a live proctored exam. According to HighLevel's certification page, the GoHighLevel certification costs $97 a month or $970 a year, and teams of more than 15 need Enterprise pricing.

The badge is "valid for two years from the date you pass the live proctor exam." To keep it, you must earn at least two additional skills badges a year and keep your subscription active.

Skills badges after the core course

Once you've passed the core course, the skills badges unlock. They cover A2P Compliance (including A2P10DLC registration), Course Creator, SaaSPRENEUR Local Hero, AI Employee, HIPAA Compliance, Paid Ads, Social Media Manager, Automated Swag Store and Quick Wins.

Prices and durations for these aren't listed, so don't plan a schedule around them. Treat the first week as the start of learning GoHighLevel, not the end.

Which parts of GoHighLevel are hardest to do yourself?

Texting compliance. Building pipelines and workflows is forgiving, because a mistake shows up on your screen and you fix it. GoHighLevel A2P registration is different: carriers and a registry judge your paperwork, and a wrong answer means a rejection and a wait.

A2P 10DLC brand registration

US companies need an EIN, and HighLevel's brand approval guidance is blunt that "A DUNS number is unacceptable" for standard brand registrations. It also requires "An exact match between the Legal Company Name and the EIN as displayed on CP 575."

That means entering only the first line of the IRS letter as the legal name, with the official registered address rather than a local branch. A DBA, trade name, SSN or mismatched stock ticker are all listed rejection reasons.

A brand-new EIN can take time to appear in verification databases, so retrying immediately gets you nowhere. Secondary vetting can take up to 7 business days.

A2P campaign registration and rejections

Campaign registration comes after the brand is approved. According to HighLevel's campaign registration guide, you need an approved brand and a live, publicly accessible business website that carriers can check.

You pick a Low Volume Standard brand (up to 6,000 SMS segments a day) or a High Volume one (up to 600,000), choose how customers opt in, and choose between promotional, informational or mixed messaging. Mixed is only for a programme that genuinely sends both.

An AI compliance review runs before submission, but passing it doesn't guarantee approval. If the campaign sits at Pending, don't create another one or resubmit. If it's rejected, open "View required fixes" and correct every issue listed.

After three failed brand attempts, the error reads "Maximum 3 tries exhausted, please reach out to the support team for next steps." Appeals cost $10 whether or not they succeed, and you must submit the full EIN PDF, since screenshots and single pages are rejected.

A2P fees you will pay either way

If you hire a GoHighLevel team, these charges don't disappear. They pass through from the registry and carriers, and HighLevel's fee guide says it adds no markup.

  • One-time bundled brand and campaign fee: $22.50 for Sole Proprietor and Low Volume Standard, $64.00 for High Volume Standard.
  • Monthly campaign fee: $2.00 for a Sole Proprietor, $10.00 for standard use cases.
  • Each extra campaign under an existing brand: $15.00 vetting fee.

Fees can change, so check the Trust Center before you submit. Ask HighLevel support whether the vetting fee applies to your first campaign before you assume it doesn't.

When to hire a GoHighLevel team

Hire a GoHighLevel team when the account has to work and your hours are better spent elsewhere. That usually means you're running a business that wants enquiries, bookings and follow-up handled, or an agency adding sub-accounts faster than one person can build them.

It also makes sense when texting is central to the business. A rejected campaign can stall every reminder and follow-up you've built, and our A2P compliance service exists for exactly that bottleneck.

GHL Prime is a GHL-certified, US-based expert team with 24/7 support, and its site lists 100+ GHL accounts built and configured. Business owners can see what's offered on the business owners page, where plans start at $149 per month. Agencies have a separate route through GHL experts for agencies.

When you hire a GoHighLevel team, ask what the monthly price covers and what stays with the HighLevel subscription and usage fees. The two bills are separate, and any provider, us included, should be able to show you the line between them.

When learning GHL yourself is the better choice

You don't have to hire a GoHighLevel team to get a working account. Learning it yourself is the better choice when you enjoy the technical work, have one account to run, and can spare the time. The certification course is short, the trial is free, and the knowledge stays with you.

It also suits anyone whose business is teaching or selling GoHighLevel, because you'll be answering client questions about it daily. In that case the certification is part of the product.

Be honest about the slow parts, though. The 7-10 days covers the course, not the workflows, the pipelines or the A2P paperwork, and each of those takes your time on top.

Can you do both: learn the basics and bring in help?

Yes. You can learn the basics and still hire a GoHighLevel team for the heavy lifting. Learn enough to read your own dashboard and make small changes, then hand the hard parts to someone who does them every week.

The natural split is to keep day-to-day edits in-house and bring in help for the initial GoHighLevel setup, texting compliance and anything that touches an API. If you only need one skill, such as a voice agent or an integration, you can hire one specialist instead of a full team.

A fuller managed arrangement is described on the dedicated GHL team page. Start with the piece that's blocking you now, whether that's a rejected campaign or an empty pipeline, and widen from there.

Frequently asked questions

Does GoHighLevel offer a free trial?

Yes. HighLevel lists a 14-day trial on every plan. Billing starts automatically when it ends unless you cancel, and usage fees for telecom or third-party services may apply during the trial.

Can I get GoHighLevel certified myself?

Yes. The Certified Admin programme costs $97 a month or $970 a year and ends in a live proctored exam. HighLevel says the course is designed to be completed in 7-10 days at a steady pace, and the badge lasts two years.

Do I need an EIN to register for A2P texting?

US companies do. HighLevel says a DUNS number is unacceptable for standard brand registration, and the legal name must match the EIN exactly as shown on the IRS CP 575 letter. Without a Tax ID, only single-number registration is available.

What happens if my A2P campaign is rejected?

Open "View required fixes", correct every issue listed, and resubmit. Resubmitting a rejected campaign carries no additional vetting fee, and HighLevel support can help if you're still stuck.
