GoHighLevel Email Templates: What's Inside the Builder

GoHighLevel email templates sit inside Marketing, Emails, Templates. That same Template Library also powers funnels, social posts, forms, and ad creation elsewhere in the account.

Pulling from one shared library keeps a single set of brand assets available no matter which part of the platform an agency is working in that day.

Once you open a template, the builder behaves more like a page editor than a locked design. It runs on a WYSIWYG basis, so whatever moves on screen is what lands in the inbox.

Three panels drive the work. Add Elements drops in new content, Manage Elements toggles what shows on desktop versus mobile, and Appearance handles background color, custom CSS, and overall width.

What GoHighLevel email templates let you edit

Most templates are built from a short list of block types:

  • Text blocks with heading levels, custom fonts, and hex color control
  • Images with alt text, padding, and alignment settings
  • Buttons wired to a URL, email address, download, or phone action
  • Dividers, social icons, and a footer with its own links
  • Embedded video from YouTube, Vimeo, Wistia, or raw HTML5

Global styling lives separately from content. That's why the same template can carry a different background color or width for two clients without touching a single block inside it.

For agencies running several sub-accounts, that separation is what makes a shared email marketing template reusable rather than a one-off build each time.

Templates behave differently inside a workflow

Dropping a template into a workflow step changes how it's stored. Selecting an existing template inside a workflow step creates a copy of it rather than a live reference, according to HighLevel's own guide on managing email templates in workflow steps.

A checkbox labeled Sync Edits to Template decides what happens after that.

Build methodBest for
Quick ComposeA short, simple message with no design work
Smart BuilderFull layout control from scratch
Select TemplateReusing something already in the library

Leave the sync box off and edits stay local to that one workflow step. Turn it on and changes flow back to the original template, and to every other workflow using it.

That distinction matters most for a client onboarding sequence, where a small wording tweak made for one client shouldn't quietly rewrite the welcome email every other client receives.

HighLevel's email builder also supports custom values, which drop recipient-specific details into a template at send time.

An Email AI import tool converts a forwarded email from Mailchimp, Active Campaign, Kajabi, HubSpot, or another platform into an editable HighLevel template. That import path, detailed in HighLevel's article on importing templates from any platform, opens the result in either the drag-and-drop Design Editor or the raw Code Editor.

HighLevel recommends reviewing the converted layout before it goes live, since the AI conversion can misplace an image or button.

None of this requires touching HTML. The Template Library's own setup guide notes there's no extra fee for using it on any plan.

The email builder's in-line editor documentation covers everything from font sizing down to border radius on a button.

For an agency managing several brands, the real payoff is building once in GHL setup and reusing the same block structure everywhere a client's emails need to go out, including under white-label support where the agency's name, not GoHighLevel's, is what the end client sees.
