The GoHighLevel Make Integration, Explained
GoHighLevel's own workflows handle plenty on their own, but they stop at the edge of the platform. The moment a lead needs to land in Google Sheets, or trigger a Telegram alert, something has to sit between the two systems.
The GoHighLevel Make integration is that bridge. It lets GoHighLevel events start a scenario in Make, and lets Make push data back in as contacts, opportunities, tasks and notes.
Make lists the app under HighLevel in its directory. It ships as a full module set rather than a single connector.
Make's own integration page highlights scenarios like importing new leads from Google Sheets straight into GoHighLevel. Firing a Telegram message the instant an opportunity is created is another. So is creating a GoHighLevel contact whenever a Shopify order comes through.
Setting Up the GoHighLevel Make Integration
Which connection you use depends on how much access the scenario genuinely needs.
Search for GoHighLevel or LeadConnector inside Make and the first option is OAuth. Pick Location OAuth 2.0, scoped to a single sub-account, or Company OAuth 2.0 at the agency level.
OAuth is the route for anything that watches live events, since Make's webhook-based triggers run on this connection type.
Generate a Private Integration Token inside GoHighLevel instead, under Settings then Private Integrations, and you get a fixed key rather than a session that refreshes itself.
GoHighLevel's own documentation is blunt about the catch. You have to copy the token the moment it generates, because it will not be shown again. Plan to rotate it roughly every 90 days.
| Connection method | Good for | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| OAuth (Location or Company) | Live triggers and webhook-based scenarios | Needs a published marketplace app with the right scopes enabled |
| Private Integration Token | Server-to-server calls to one sub-account | Static token, no auto-refresh, rotated by hand |
Getting those scopes right the first time saves you from rebuilding the connection later. That's usually the slower part of any GHL setup and configuration work.
What You Can Actually Build Once It's Connected
Once the connection exists, Make's GoHighLevel module gives you a working set of triggers and actions, not a blank slate. The current trigger is Watch Events, a webhook listener that replaced two older modules now marked deprecated: Watch Contact Updated and Watch Opportunities.
On the action side, the module covers the operations most scenarios actually need:
- Create, update or delete a contact
- Create, update or delete an opportunity
- Create or update a task
- Add or remove a contact from a campaign
- Add a note to a contact
Searches round it out. Make can look up a contact, list opportunities or list tasks. That matters when a scenario needs to check whether a record already exists before deciding whether to create a new one.
Both connection types also expose a generic Make an API Call module for anything the named actions don't cover. It sends a raw request to GoHighLevel's API using whatever scopes the connection was granted.
That's the move when GoHighLevel ships an endpoint before Make builds a dedicated action around it.
Native integrations handle plenty of the common cases without Make at all. Before building a scenario for something that already connects directly, it's worth checking the full GoHighLevel integrations list.
Make earns its place in the gap between those native integrations: the one-off sync, the conditional routing, the app GoHighLevel never built a direct connector for.
Scope the token to the single sub-account the scenario touches, and pick OAuth only when live triggers are actually needed. Agencies running several client accounts through one set of scenarios tend to lean on workflow automation built this way rather than rebuilding each sync by hand.
