GoHighLevel Workflow Templates: What You Actually Get
GoHighLevel's Workflows tab doesn't open on a blank canvas. The landing page offers three ways in: describe what you want and let AI build it, start from nothing, or browse GoHighLevel workflow templates with a trigger and a sequence of actions already attached.
Picking the third option changes what you're doing. Instead of writing steps from a blank list, you're deciding what to change before switching one on.
HighLevel calls these native starting points workflow recipes, and they're narrower than the name suggests. The Facebook Comment Automation recipe fires on any first-level comment on a post, replies publicly asking the commenter to check their DM, then sends an interactive message with clickable options before delivering a file.
It's built for comment-to-download promotions specifically, not comment automation in general. Most native recipes work this way: one scenario, solved end to end, rather than a generic shape you bend to fit six different situations.
GoHighLevel workflow templates versus the ones your agency builds
The recipes HighLevel ships are only half the picture. Agencies can turn their own sub-account workflows into templates and push them to clients, though that sits behind a plan tier. HighLevel's documentation ties template creation to an Agency Admin role on the Pro plan; cheaper tiers can browse the library but can't publish new ones.
Once a template exists, it carries a category, tags, a description and a cover image, plus a toggle that controls who sees it. A draft status lets an admin finish editing before anything goes live.
That's the structure white-label support work tends to live inside: build the automation once against a real client, template it, then hand every new sub-account the finished version instead of a recipe someone has to rebuild.
There's a layer above both. When a built-in action can't do what's needed, developers can add custom actions and triggers through HighLevel's Marketplace, billed per execution and visible in a sub-account's action list only once that sub-account has installed the corresponding app. That's the layer where workflow automation work stops being configuration and starts being integration.
Which templates are worth setting up first
Not every recipe suits every business, but a few patterns recur across most GoHighLevel accounts. HighLevel's own list of agency workflow examples is a reasonable starting menu:
| Template | Trigger | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Lead capture to qualification | Form submission, ad lead, or chat conversation | Sends an instant SMS or email, tags the lead by source, notifies the rep, and reminds them if there's been no contact |
| Client onboarding | Opportunity moves to "Client Won" | Sends a welcome email with a scheduling link, assigns an intake task, and follows up if the form isn't done |
| Missed call response | Missed inbound call or form fill | Sends an automatic text reply, notifies the rep, and follows up again the next day |
| Review request | Opportunity moves to "Job Complete" | Sends a thank-you text with a review link, and routes lower ratings to a manager instead of publishing them |
| Renewal reminder | Set days before a contract ends | Notifies the account owner ahead of the renewal date so it doesn't get missed |
A few of those steps do more than they look like. Each "reminds them if there's been no contact" branch depends on how the workflow handles time, which is what GoHighLevel's wait steps are for.
Removing a lead from follow-up once they respond only works because the workflow checks a condition first, the logic covered in how GoHighLevel if/else conditions work. A recipe that looks finished in the library often needs one of these added before it matches a real pipeline, which is also where GoHighLevel's pipeline templates save rework.
Start with whichever template maps to a process already running by hand. The missed-call and review-request recipes tend to earn their place fastest, since that follow-up was happening anyway. It just wasn't happening within the hour.
